Portait of the Young Soldier

Private RICHARD HOHEPA HEPERI circa. 1916-1917

This is a picture of Grandpa, before he left to serve in WW1 on the Western Front.  Based on his birth date, Enlistment date, and Service records, Grandpa was 16-17 years old in this picture... just a kid!!!  Much thanks to Aunty Jane Heperi for providing these photos. (Aunty Jane is married to Pat Heperi-- dad's brother, Bill Heperi.  Uncle Pat and dad are son's of Richard Hohepa Heperi.)

  1. Your Papa spent a lot of time at our house in Huitoia. A friend of mine found your papa's name in a tunnel in France, he must have had some down time I'll try and get it for your site.

  2. Mita,
Thanks. Cuzzin's Jae Oliver-Heperi and Mare Clark have helped me to compile much of this info. I never had the opportunity you fulla's had to be around grandpa very much. However, I'm blessed to now interact and learn from those of you who knew him well.

You'll notice, on this Blog, under title "Locations Posted" that Grandpa was a part of the NZETC for 2-3 months, beginning Dec. 8, 1916. I'm guessing that's when he put his name there? Any photos, leads, and info. will be gladly received.

    Much thanks,
    Vernon
